A priest, an atheist and a Jewish composer ‘walk into a bar’… and out comes one of the most beautiful and beloved Christmas Carols of all time. However, it almost didn’t survive, at least there were those that wanted to remove the song from the Church forever because of who wrote it. The song was redeemed and has stood the test of time. Its theme of redemption, that in the message of Christmas our “Souls feel their worth,” reminds us that the theme of human history is redemption, God redeeming the world through Christ. We are then called to “redeem” the time, to make the most of every opportunity to be a channel of love, a message truth, and light in the darkness.
